What is Malaysian Humanitarian Foundation (“MHF”) about?

MHF is a non-profit and tax-exemption organisation that also provides integrated community and caring platform activities and services for all Malaysians, regardless of gender, race or religion.

Who are our target audience?

We wish to target Malaysian and residents in Malaysia to be volunteers in the community projects that we offer that are done with care and dedication with light minded partners.

How do we meet the needs of the population?

With volunteerism demands on the rise and in conjunction with the population trend, we wish to provide for a full range of volunteerism activities so that volunteers can choose what areas that they wish to be part of.  The volunteers can then see how they can grow into their preferred areas of strengths and to help to “Strengthen A Caring Culture and Society” in Malaysia. We hope to see some 5% of the population in Malaysia volunteer by 2030 if possible.

What is the Model of Care for Volunteerism?

Model of Care is an outline of best practices and caring believes for volunteers that looks at all aspects of selfless services that can sustain their interest, participation and awareness. This is especially where we are also looking at the realisation of a circular economy where we need to enhance life skills and waste management workings.

Where do you provide the volunteering services?

We are currently providing services within the Klang Valley and shall expand when we are ready to do so. On projects basis, we are also doing projects at a national level such as that with World Cleanup Day (WCD). See our website for more information.

What are your operating hours?

Our care service operational hours are 7 am till 11 pm, 7 days a week. Our office operating hours are 9 am till 6 pm (Mondays – Fridays), except on public holidays.

Did MHF get involved in social enterprise workings?

MHF went into the social enterprise workings in lieu that it will get harder to fundraise going forward. It is important to provide stability for the foundation, the services it extends to the communities and for the staffing teams that are working with the foundation too. MHF consulted and worked closely with the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs as well as with SSM towards the setting up of the social enterprise sdn bhd. It also complies to workings that are also required by Ministry of Finance on tax exemption status to be maintained for the foundation.

  • Volunteer details: name, age, gender, identification number (NRIC/ Passport No.), and address.
  • Type of volunteerism.

Rest assured that you will be guided by our Person in Charge throughout the process.

Who will attend to your enquiries?

Upon contacting us, you will be attended by our Person in Charge: Volunteer Care Manager (VCM)

Our Volunteer Care Manager (VCM) are professionally trained in taking care of volunteer’s needs by providing and delivering professional, helpful and assistance before, during, and after the volunteer’s requirements are met.

What happens after the request has been placed?

Once your request has been managed by our Volunteer Care Manager (VCM), a notification will then be sent to you through e-mail or WhatsApp text message services or SMS.

DISABLE HOMES

What does our disabled homes volunteers do?

We wish to help disabled community out there such as giving them support and encouragement. We can also support them financially in terms of basic needs, education, training and courses where we can help with fundraising.

In the future, we will also be coming up with apps which basically matches disabled persons with job opportunities. All this are not easy to do and we need to patiently work closely with light minded individuals and partners to realise this aspiration.

What are the benefits of helping at disabled homes?
  • Whether it’s helping someone run errands or tutoring a child with special needs or to accompany an elderly to the hospital, you’re promoting their personal empowerment. Not only are you helping them build the tools to be more independent, but you’re also improving their self-esteem and needed confidence.
  • Personal happiness and joy increase when you find meaningful volunteering work to do. You can actually impact peace, respect, empathy and longevity in people’s life. For older adults, you can help them stay physically and socially active, which helps improve their overall health.

ELDERLY HOMES

What does our elderly homes volunteers do?

We wish to help the elderly to live their lives better and more meaningfully. It helps a lot if volunteers can spend one off time or regular time with the elderly in the community homes. That will help them to have more interaction and communication with the public.

How long will it take for your request to process if you wish to volunteer?

What are the benefits of helping at elderly homes?
  • Improving the life of elderly: Loneliness has been directly related to an increased risk of cardiovascular disease. With that in mind, think about the difference we can make in someone’s life when we take the time to sit and chat, or offer meaningful experience and sharing with them.
  • Your visit or time could be the highlight of someone’s day. Many elderly people look forward to their interactions with their care staff. Your empathetic and friendly presence could mean the difference between a tough day, a bad day and a good day.

HOSPICE HOMES

What does our hospice homes volunteers do?

We wish to help patients by going to the facility and giving them positive support. Some of them might already feel hopeless and gave up in life because of their conditions. So, the least we can do is to support them positively and give them encouragement.

What are the benefits of helping at hospice homes?

In addition to pain and symptom management, hospice care benefits include a variety of support services for patients and their families: education, emotional and spiritual support, help with financial issues, help with the patient’s personal care and hygiene, and respite care to give a family caregiver a break.

ORPHAN HOMES

What does our orphan homes volunteers do?

We wish to support them financially in terms of basic needs, education and healthcare. For many of the orphans, school was an unattainable dream. An opportunity they could never afford. But we can make that dream a reality! However, there are many more children waiting for this chance.

What are the benefits of helping at orphan homes?
  • Orphan homes changes the lives of children in some of the most deprived communities. With your help we can ensure that they receive an education, food, healthcare, medical support and the loving care that any child needs. These are the basics that millions of children are deprived of. Your time contributions mean that they are looked after and given hope for the future.
  • All children, particularly orphans, need a safe place to grow. Caring for orphans and nurturing them with the basics like food and clean clothes and access to education, increases the likelihood of them becoming positive members of the communities. Changing their narrative from being vulnerable to resilient.

Medical Services for Free for Those with Genuine Needs (that cannot afford)

What are our medical services?

This is one of our service where we are providing free medical service for those who cannot afford it. As we all know, medical services are quite expensive and many people and family still cannot afford it especially the low income family. See our website for more information or contact us.

What are the benefits of medical service for those with genuine needs?
  • Helping families with a basic healthcare service. As we all know, they are still a lot of families that did not have access to the right health care.
  • Providing better healthcare and lifestyle to poor family.
  • Helping to cover the expenses of medical bills that some family cannot afford.
  • Provide medical checkup especially to children so they can grow healthy.
Looking for healthcare professionals to provide free services to genuine individuals in need in Malaysia

We would like healthcare providers offer their free time (not necessary with funds) for deserving individuals for some level of basic healthcare. You can offer time for this as we will also filter the cases carefully and genuinely. You can also not take up the cases if you feel that they are not worthy of the free services too. This approach to us is for us to see how to make basic healthcare to be better accessible to more genuine people in need and especially for those that cannot access the hospitals because of access or situations. Non-Medical Services for Free for Those with Genuine Needs (that cannot afford)

What is our non-medical services?

We wish to provide free non-medical services to those who are in needs. We are looking for e.g. caregiver who would want to perform a free service to those in needs or to transport food for the needy. For example, they can agree to give 10 free service/year for chosen individual, we will then try to match the situation with a genuine situation of need.

What are the benefits of non-medical service for those with genuine needs?
  • Provide caregiver and volunteering service to those who are in needs. There are so many areas of works that volunteers can do to help in this. Call us and we can make some suggestions for you.
  • Provide mobility service to those who in needs can be one of the many examples. For families who does not have a car, it will be quite hard for them to go to clinic or hospital.
  • Volunteer can even do e.g. sewing to help with community works. Community giving and sharing options and the opportunities to help are endless.
  • Helping others indirectly also helps us. It gives us purpose and built up our tolerance for one another as we will have more patience and empathy for people.

Cleanup Beaches

What do our cleanup beaches volunteer do?

Most of our beaches are polluted and dirty. This has become a very concerning issue. That is why we are looking out for volunteers who want to join us in this movement. Our target is to clean up our beaches and make sure they are stay clean all the time. We are targeting beaches all over the country, from peninsula Malaysia to Sabah and Sarawak.

What are the benefits of cleaning up beaches?
  • Beaches are diverse, beautiful, natural treasures that are here for all of us to explore and enjoy together. Unfortunately, trash on our beaches jeopardizes these shared natural treasures. By cleaning up the beach, you ensure that visitors from all over the world can enjoy your beaches fully.
  • Seaside communities around the country get a huge boost to their economies from both fishing and tourism. When beaches are free of litter, tourists and visitors are much more likely to enjoy them and spend money at businesses near the beaches. 
  • Litter isn’t just unsightly, but it can actually be dangerous. Metal with sharp edges and pieces of glass can create a public health hazard just as much as an aesthetic one. These sharp pieces of litter can easily hide in sand and cause serious injuries!

Cleanup Rivers

What do our cleanup rivers volunteer do?

We wish to protect the rivers in Malaysia because they are exposed to waste and pollution. The sources of pollution can come from domestic and industrial sewerage, effluents from livestock farms, manufacturing and agro-based industries, suspended solids from mining, housing and road construction, logging and clearing of forest and heavy metals from factories etc.

What are the benefits of cleaning up rivers?
  • Rivers remain an important source of drinking water for many towns and cities. The water is purified first before it reaches to our tap. However, if our rivers remains polluted, the water can’t be purified to the extent that it won’t be suitable for human consumption anymore.
  • Rivers provide habitat to a wide range of animal and plant species. However, these species are already critically endangered due to the rapid deterioration of our rivers. These species may be saved if we clean up our rivers.
  • Clean, healthy rivers reduce human health risk and improved quality of life. Less trash increase recreational activities along rivers, clean and safe walk and run trails for the community. As recreational activities increases, tourists will be attracted. Thus, affecting both the economy and well-being of the community.

Cleanup Digitally

What do our cleanup digitally volunteer do?

We wish to encourage people out there to clean up their homes, offices or factories. Cleaning up your homes and offices are just as important as cleaning the environment. And you know what the saying says, cleanliness starts at your own home! You may think your homes and offices are “okay” but trust us, once you start digging, you will be surprised of how much clutter you will find. We need to be mindful not to be hoarding negatively.

What are the benefits of cleaning up digitally?
  • Without the obstacles of clutter or the mental distraction that a messy office causes, employees are happier and more productive. Employees waste time trying to locate documents or clean up past projects to organize or archive their work. It is much easier to remain focused in a clutter-free office and it also reduces stress levels. A happy employee is a working and performing employee.
  • A clean home leaves fewer places for germs and bacteria to hide. Plus, dust and allergens build up in carpeting, bedding and upholstery over time, contributing to worsened allergies and asthma. In short, the health benefits of a clean home are obvious.
  • Seriously, being clean and tidy means you’ll be more productive at work. Studies have shown that people who live and work in clean environments tend to be more focused and productive at work. Increased productivity means you’ll generate better results and earn more money in the long run.
  • This is especially so when most have so many digital gadgets, phones, computers, lap tops etc. where there are also so many unneeded files inside the systems too.

Cleanup Parks

What do our cleanup parks volunteer do?

We wish to gather volunteers where they can help to clean parks around Malaysia. We want to maintain a clean and healthy parks so that people can come and have a nice time together.

What are the benefits of cleaning up digitally?
  • Inaccessible to those who want to construct homes or commercial buildings, parks play an important role in protecting open land. They contribute to improved air and water quality, and they’re essential habitats for wildlife.
  • A park is a place for people to connect with nature, spend time with friends, and play outside with family. Neighbourhoods need parks in order to increase intercommunity engagement, which can improve residents’ mental and physical health.
  • Parks encourage safer neighbourhoods. By presenting children with opportunities to spend time outdoors, they prevent antisocial behaviour and crime too.

Cleanups Community NGO Homes

What do our cleanup community NGO homes volunteers do?

We need volunteers to go and offer their help for respective non-government organisation (ngo) or community homes and do cleanup at the places. Among the activities that they can do is to clean up the community centres/homes, the yards and the surroundings.

What are the benefits of cleanup community NGO homes?
  • Providing help and support for NGO homes. They would be happy to receive help from us as most of the time they have limited man power.
  • While we cleaning up the homes, we also can spend time with the community NGO and have some quality time with the residences. This will make them happy and feel included.

Interest Group

What do our interest group volunteers do?

We are looking for volunteers that would be interested to do a volunteer in interest group. For example, sewing group, cycling group, business group etc. and what’s more interesting, they can also earn extra income with this. It is always important to all works and services with governance and honesty.

What are the benefits of interest group?
  • When you join an interest group, then you are becoming part of a like-minded set of individuals who want to pursue topics of interest that you are also passionate about right now. 
  • If you want to get involved with the changed that you’d like to see in society, then interest groups give you that opportunity. There is an opportunity to suggest or offer a meaningful voice for any legislation, policy, or regulations that run counter to what you think are beneficial to your community. We are living in a society where it is positive if we can be more inclusive than it is to be exclusive.
